[THC] We PASSED!!!!

We be certified, sanctified, ordained and licensed. OK, maybe not all
of those. Rick and I passed the BJCP exam. I got a pretty pathetic
65%, and Rick did a little better. No good explanation. A tiny bit of
panic but mostly I just didn't study hard enough. It's hard to
learn/memorize new stuff when you're old. Sigh.

BUT WHO CARES!? We passed. Yippee. Eventually I will probably take it
again and improve my score, since being ranked as "recognized" is quite
low and the only way to get a higher ranking is to get at least 70% on
the test. But before I take it again I will study a bit more, and
probably attempt to teach it as well -- one of the best ways to learn a
subject is to be forced to prepare to teach it to others. Anybody
interested in a BJCP study course? I will be hoping to get some takers
from the RHIT dept at Purdue one of these days. There is no requirement
to homebrew in order to be a beer judge. Of course homebrewers
generally have a huge head start on understanding malt, hops, yeast,
water, adjuncts, and the brewing process, which *are* requirements in
order to be a beer judge.

See you at Joe Y's Aug meeting
