[THC] flurry of activity, "digest mode"

Hi brewers and friends of brewers!

We have 61 member in this email list. When any list member sends a
message to the list address (thc at lafinlarry.net) that message goes to
all 61 people. It would be a lot of messages per day if everybody had
something to say every day.

There is a "digest" option, and if you choose it, you will get only one
email per day, and it will have all the emails strung together inside of
it. Many people like this option because it cuts down on number of
emails and on distractions too. What time of day is the digest email
sent? Dunno. Probably midnight. Who knows and will write us a quick
reply?

I can change anybody to digest mode, just ask, or you can do it. The
user interface for getting your password emailed to you, and/or for
changing your account options, is.... a bit cryptic. I think there's a
way I can make it less cryptic but I haven't figured out how yet.

NOTE that when you click reply -- your reply goes to the list address
(and therefore the whole group of 61) unless you change toe address "by
hand." I have seen (not in this list) people embarrass themselves
mightily, and make other people embarrassed or hurt, by writing what
they thought was a reply to an individual but sending it unwittingly to
the list address.

Example: Linda writes "blah blah blah" to the list and Lloyd writes
back, to the list "yes and what I've seen is also blah blah blah," and
then John responds to Lloyd's email, and John thinks he's writing to
only Lloyd but forgets to change the "To" address, and he says "Hey
Lloyd, that's what I've seen too, and I am so sick of that mouthy fat
know-it-all Linda constantly telling us this blah blah blah like we just
sit around waiting for her to speak wisdom....."

I know many or most people know this, but some people have had questions.

:-) Write swihart at purdue.edu (not the list address; other people don't
really want that extra email) if you want me to change your list set-up
in any way.
