No clue about more persistent marking on bottles.  I'm rather certain 
that they did not purposely contract for bottles whose labels would wear 
off quickly so they could refuse to refill them. 

I do know that when you want to get that stuff off (e.g. Corona 
bottles), it won't come off, and when you don't want it to come off 
(growlers), it does. 

What to do about this is a question to ask Greg and/or Nancy.  The 
response of the bar- or wait-staff might have been different than what 
Greg would have done or said if he'd been there.
