I'm totally reworking that planting bed and the experts way it's
important for the health of the hops to thin the root mass once in a
while. I never have in about nine years.
It's a little after 5 pm on Sun 3/16/08. Don't phone we won't hear it
because Rick is using the router and it's LOUD even if the phone is
sitting near by....
We are at 325 West Oak St West Lafayette 47906.
I'm putting them in shredded white paper wetted with non-chlorinated
water and I'll sit the tub on the porch soon and we'll go in. (It's not
supposed to go below freezing tonight.
THEY ARE FRAGILE until after they're growing. Then they're invasive and
hard to eradicate.
The little white nubs that look like tiny new asparagus tips, THOSE are
what you want to not bump, not let dry out. GENTLY handle, gently lay
in the dirt and gently cover with an inch or two of fairly fine soil.
This is an experiment but I think it's the right time. They look a lot
like I remember the hops when I got them and planted them (nine years
ago or so). If you're not coming from far it'll only cost you your
gas. I know quite a few of you it's close to work....
